PROSPECTING FOR GOLD

THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH

Prospecting for gold in business is similar to what prospectors faced during the gold rush days of California. They all had the same idea on what they wanted to find, but they went about it in different ways. Some looked for a stream of water where they could just pan for gold. Others went searching under rocks doing the hard work of digging for it.

Some followed their own lead and did their own searching. Others waited for someone else to find the gold and then followed. A few got lucky and struck gold right away. Most didn’t find it that easy and had to keep trying different methods in different places.

But no one found gold without looking for it. You can’t sit back and wait for gold to come to you. You need to go out and find it. There is gold in those hills and while luck is always a good thing, you will find that it comes your way if you keep getting better at looking for it.

HOW TO SHARPEN YOUR SHOVEL

When thinking about how to market and sell your products or services, consider the following questions:

  • 1. What is the most effective way to market your products or services?

  • 2. Do you need a website immediately?

  • 3. Can you hire others to market for you?

  • 4. Should you lower your prices?

  • 5. What words do you use in an advertisement or a brochure?

  • 6. Where can you meet people and what do you say to them?

  • 7. Who are your target customers?

  • 8. How do you reach them?

  • 9. Are there any low-cost ways to market?

  • 10. What is the best way to ask people to buy?
